novella is one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. Although the labels on bottles and tins say fondata nel 1621 (founded in 1621, the Officina was actually established by Dominicanmonks in 1221-1621 was the year when it was opened to the public.

When I stop at the Officina, I always take time to admire the bottles and jars on display in the wooden carved cupboards, and often leave with one of the liqueurs.
The packaging of these ancient liquor uses neat, elegant designs that conjure up renaissance flair. Liquor　mediceo,which was invented in honor of the Medici family, is my most common choice.

It is made from several spices and ten different herbs, including lemonbalm and marjoram, fennnel It tastes sweet and fresh.

I usually have a nite-cap, and have used it to make vanilla#custard-based icecreams tangier.

ときどき飲んでいるノヴェッラのメディーチェオ（ハーブリキュール）個人的に「フレンチェの養命酒」と呼んでます。元々酒が弱いタイプですが、これは鼻に近づけただけでテンション上がりますよ。まるで飲むアロマか！ってくらい癒されます。

この世界最古の薬局と深い友好関係にあったメディチ家へのオマージュとして、この名が付けられたようです。

フェンネルやレモンバーム、バーベナ、ジンジャーカルダモンベナ、マジョラム等のリーフや種、根など、10種類ものハーブを漬け込みエクストラクトさせた薬用酒です。

特にフェンネルはエストロゲンの分泌を促す作用のあるハーブとしても知られています。
更に、レモンバームは別名「メリッサ」と呼ばれるシソ科のハーブでネロリの次に好きな精油。
レモンを100倍くらい強烈にした香りを放ち、これの原液を手首にちょこんと付けてクンクンするだけで、一気に眠気が吹っ飛びエナジーが漲るすごい薬草なんです。

私はナイトキャップとして原液で少量を飲む事が多いです。

「有名店のバーテンダーが自腹で飲みたい酒はこれだ！」が実はこのリキュールなんだそう。

世界的にみても年間生産量が実に１万５０００本弱というとても贅沢で貴重なリキュールです。

生産量を上げられない理由は徹底した品質管理のためだと言われています。
